Book Review: Bared to You

Everyone remember 50 Shades of Grey? My review of that series is here, and my opinions about the "kinky fuckery" is here, here, and here, and my list of books you might like if you liked the series is here.

And, guess what? I have another book to add to that list.

Bared to You by Sylvia Day is eerily similar to 50 Shades: rich, attractive man with major comittment issues falls in love/lust/etc. with a middle class woman. The difference, it seems, is that the one with past "issues" is the main female protagonist.

From Goodreads:
Our journey began in fire... Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness-beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily... Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other's most private wounds... and desires. The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

Like when I read any good smut novel, I couldn't put it down. But, this time, I felt much more able to relate to the characters. Gideon is a powerful business executive, and Eva a young 20-something who is living in an apartment in NYC as an administrative assistant with a supremely overprotective mother. When Gideon meets Eva, he is predictably taken with her, and we witness a fast-moving, powerful courtship that forces both of them to confront their pasts.

This novel is intense, riveting, capturing, and erotic. If you liked 50 Shades, you will like this novel. If you think you'd like 50 Shades without the kink, or with better writing, you'll like this novel. It's definitely a great way to pass a rainy afternoon/evening/morning!

What have you been reading lately?

  2. Better writing and no kink? Definitely sounds better than 50!
